Public be damned, looks like President Low Normal has been given the fig leaf he’s been looking for.:

“WASHINGTON — Top U.S. military commanders in Iraq have decided to recommend a “surge” of fresh American combat forces, eliminating one of the last remaining hurdles to proposals being considered by President Bush for a troop increase, a defense official familiar with the plan said Friday.”

Well get those flag-draped coffins ready, folks, cause we’re gonna need a lot of them. Dubbya’s got the Urge to Merge with a Surge, and nothing can stop him now, can it?

One can hope.

Meanwhile it’s nice to see Surge, surging its way into the language once again. For it brings back such lovely memories of a simpler time.

Take it away Gustav !

In meinem Lieben, in meinem Lied!”

(“I Am Lost to the World
with which I once spent so much time;
for so long it has heard nothing of me,
it may well believe that I am dead!

It is no matter to me
if it takes me for dead.
I can also say nothing against it,
for really I am dead to the world.

I am dead to the turmoil of the world
and rest in a quiet region.
I live alone in my heaven,
in my love, in my song.”)
