At first it was all very plain-wrap

“The conference drew thousands of attendees, many of whom waited in a long line out the door for a late-afternoon appearance by Ann Coulter the conservative author and commentator. Still, the tone of the conference was less excitement about the 2008 campaign than concern about the ideological credentials of the three leading contenders for the Republican nomination”

But then –

“WASHINGTON, March 3 — Three of the leading Republican presidential candidates on Saturday denounced one of their party’s best-known conservative commentators for using an antigay epithet when discussing a Democratic presidential contender at a gathering of conservatives here.”

Oh my! What did the uh “stand-up comedienne” say?

The remarks by Ann Coulter an author who regularly speaks at conservative events, were sharply denounced by the candidates, Senator John McCain of Arizona, Rudolph W. Giuliani of New York and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts. Their statements came after Democrats, gay rights groups and bloggers raised a storm of protest over the remarks.
Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference before an overflow crowd on Friday, Ms. Coulter said, “I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘faggot,’ so I — so kind of an impasse, can’t really talk about Edwards.”
Mr. Edwards’s aides responded with an e-mail message that attacked Ms. Coulter and urged supporters to donate to Mr. Edwards’s campaign. “John was singled out for a personal attack because the Republican establishment knows he poses the greatest threat to their power,” said his campaign manager, David E. Bonior “Since they have nothing real to use against him, Coulter’s resorting to the classic right-wing strategy of riling up hate to smear a progressive champion.”

Typical of the party that allows a specially annointed lesbian (Mary Cheney) to artificially impregnate herself while screaming from the nearest rooftop its opposition to every other glbt individual that dares to walk the earth.

And that’s not to mention the male hustler operating out of the White House while posing as a fake journalist.

“Ms. Coulter, asked for a reaction to the Republican criticism, said in an e-mail message: “C’mon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean.”
Her remarks drew some cheers that could be heard on a videotape of the event.”

Yet only now does AdNags choose to make note of said cheers. Now why is that?

“The criticisms by the Republican candidates put them in a difficult position because the Conservative Political Action Conference has been an important gathering for conservative and Republican leaders for more than 25 years.
The speakers this year included Vice President Dick Cheney and most of the presidential candidates, whose presence suggested the political influence the group holds in the party’s nominating process. Mr. Cheney was not at the event on Friday. “

But was Mary there? How about her girlfriend, Heather? How about the lovely Ken Mehlman? The dashing David Drier? The oleagenous Uncle Karl?

America wants to know AdNags — and you’re the cocksucker to tell us.

Of the major Republican candidates, only Mr. McCain did not attend, but he denounced her remarks on Saturday morning. “The comments were wildly inappropriate,” said his spokesman, Brian Jones.
Mr. Giuliani said, “The comments were completely inappropriate and there should be no place for such name-calling in political debate.”

Though the part-time drag queen was present.

Kevin Madden, a spokesman for Mr. Romney, said: “It was an offensive remark. Governor Romney believes all people should be treated with dignity and respect.”
Mr. Romney preceded Ms. Coulter at the event and mentioned that she was speaking later — he jokingly referred to her as a “moderate.” But he did not formally introduce her and he was not in the room when she spoke, Mr. Madden said.

Hmmm. Maybe Ann’s “security” threw him out.:

Just a few hours ago, my friend Dan Borchers — a conservative Christian who is writing a book about Ann Coulter’s “extermination speak” — was bodily wrestled out of CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) by four of Ann Coulter’s bodyguards. Two of these goons claimed they were CPAC security, but Borchers recognized the most hostile one as Coulter’s longtime bodyguard. It appeared that they staged the whole thing, for they were following him with a camera. During the altercation, they cut Borcher’s hand, tried to pry his name tag and credentials off his neck, physically WRESTLED him out of the hotel, and shoved him. Why? Borchers couldn’t get a straight answer out of the four guards, except “you are not permitted to be here.”

Very Blossom Dearie.

Borcher’s crime: asking a question of another author (Mark Smith) about Ann Coulter’s involvement in the Paula Jones case. Borchers spent money, bought expensive tickets, took time off work and traveled from Maryland as he does every year, to be at CPAC. Lisa DePasquale, the head of CPAC and Human Events, sent Borchers his tickets and wrote him a nice letter welcoming him to the conference. He is a lifelong Republican, a conservative military veteran, whose only crime is being morally offended at the way conservatism has been ruined by people like Coulter, who claims to be a Christian, but indulges in hate-speak and amoral, felonious behavior. He believes it is his moral obligation to bring attention to this, and that “evil triumphs when good men do nothing.”

Well fancy that.

Borchers is the most mild-mannered, humble Christian. He is critical of the way Ann Coulter has “mainstreamed extremism” and has written articles about her. He accused her of plagiarizing her early books, and at the CPAC conference two years ago, he tried to distribute press kits calling for Coulter to stop her hate speak

A non-starter if there ever was one.

Yes the Republicans are most definitely The Nervous Set.

As is AdNags:

“Sing a song of sad young man
Glasses full of rye
All the news is bad again
Kiss your dreams goodbye

All the sad young men
Sitting in the bars
Knowing neon nights
Missing all the stars

All the sad young men
Drifting through the town
Drinking up the night
Trying not to drown

All the sad young men
Singing in the cold
Trying to forget
That they’re growing old

All the sad young men
Choking on their youth
Trying to be brave
Running from the truth

Autumm turns the leaves to gold
Slowly dies the heart
Sad young men are growing old
That’s the cruelest part

All the sad young men
Seek a certain smile
Someone they can hold for a little while
Tired little girl does the best she can
Trying to be gay for her sad young man

While the grimy moon
Watches from above
All the sad young men
Play at making love

Misbegotten moon
Shine for sad young men
Let your gentle light
Guide them home again
All the sad young men”
