No, not Joan Blondell and Ruby Keeler
Joan Collins, John Hurt, James Corden and Carol Ann Duffy are among the Britons who may be celebrating the arrival of 2015 a bit early, having been named to Queen Elizabeth II’s annual new year honors list, the British government has announced.
Ms. Collins, the actress and “Dynasty” star, was named a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in recognition “for services to charity,” the government said in its announcement.
Joan first made her fame as the Queen of Egypt.
>Ms. Duffy, Britain’s poet laureate, was also made a dame, as was the actress Kristin Scott Thomas (“The English Patient”). Mr. Hurt (“The Elephant Man,” “I, Claudius”) was knighted for his acting work,
And John ever so memorably played one of the stately Homos of England.
While Kristin began her career with a Prince
and Mr. Corden, a star of “Into the Woods” and the incoming host of CBS’s “Late Late Show,” was named an officer of the Order of the British Empire, or O.B.E.
