There I was in WeHo this afternoon and high atop a medium-sized building in full view of everyone and everything was a poster with the image you see above, advertising David France’s new Netflix release The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson
Rather dark stuff as you can see. Well for those of us who recall New York in the Pre-Stonewall era Marsha (born “Malcolm Michaels” in Elizabeth New Jersey in 1945) was a welcome sight. A street queen with a heart as big as her smile, Marsha was a pivotal figure in the Stonewall Uprising. But well beyond that she was Living Legend. She was really seething. No one who met her ever forgot her.
